Most Inspiring Blogger Award Meme 2014

After a lot of thought I have decided to move some of best of my old posts from Aging Runnah and A Runnah’s Story blogs, primarily the old reviews, maybe a few of the better posts and race reports that I have written over the years. I have a feeling that at some point, my WordPress.com blogs are simply going to go away and I want to still be able to go back and read some of the stuff I wrote.

If you are reading this blog post, that is why it is has been re-posted here.

Since I am not going to do a RunLog post today, I only did a couple of miles with Bennie, I wanted to do something different.

While I am not all that big on these blogger award meme's that go around the blogosphere, due to the amount of personal information that tends to be given during one of those posts.

Also I consider them a bit of artificial linking back to the person who nominated you in the post, so while the intent of many of the people who nominate others for these "blogging awards" is completely innocent and an effort to expose others to blogs that they love.

From where I sit they can also be an artificial effort to drive traffic back to a blog. Yes, I understand the numbers game for social media marketing and how much page views affects bloggers who chose to do it or need to grow their blogs to attract more/different clients.

To be honest, while I love to read these award memes on the many blogs I follow, after all they are interesting and fun to read, I usually tend to ignore doing them myself. Due to the privacy concerns (if you put it on the Internet - it is no longer private) and the social media marketing connections/connotations some of these memes have.

However, every once in a while I get the urge to do something other than write about my running or running in general, so here goes and since I do not mind linking back to Mike and Andy - I love and read all of their posts, here goes:

1. Thank the person who nominated you. Mike at Running Around The Bend and Andy at I'm A Runner and So Can You - both nominated me for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award - so Thank You!

2. Add the Very Inspiring Blogger Award to your post - naw not my style

3. Share seven things about yourself - I took Mike's example and shared a little more, since I tend not to follow directions all that well and this way I don't feel as if I am hiding anything and will not feel as though I need to do one again any time soon.

4 & 5. Nominate a list of bloggers that inspire you and (5) Post on their blog about it. I believe that if I read your blogs regularly you are inspiring me and really do not need my linking to them in this post. Besides, I have a feeling that all the blogs I subscribe to and read or comment on regularly have already been nominated in this round.…

I have decided to use the ‘TMI Survey’ Aimee posted about here:

1. What are you wearing?

I am relaxing watching the Celtics summer league game, in running shorts and one of my running tank tops, with the A/C off.

2. Ever been in love?

Yes and I still am.

3. Ever had a terrible breakup?

4. How tall are you?

5'7" and I always wanted to be a power forward for the Celtics.

5. How much do you weigh?

155 - I would like to get down to 145 for this fall 5k racing season, but I tend to eat too much "junk" food. Whoopie pies, ice cream and potato chips (Wavy Lays), so that will be tough.

6. Any tattoos?

No - I pass out when needles come around, so a tattoo is not in my future.

7. Any piercings?

No - not my style either

8. Favorite song?

Nickelback - If Today Was Your Last Day

My best friend gave me the best advice
He said each day's a gift and not a given right
Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind
And try to take the path less traveled by
That first step you take is the longest stride

Fitting advice for a runner and the rest of the song will make you think.

What would you do, if today was your last day?

Although Sugar, Sugar by the Archies comes in a close second - yeah I remember the show this song was originally shown on back in the 60's, it was a big deal on a Saturday morning and yes, I still love Bubble Gum music.

9. Quality you look for in a partner?

Honesty, being willing to be around a runner and all my idiosyncrasies. Not that a runner would be anything other than normal.

10. Favorite quote?

Keep smiling and good things can happen - Unknown

11. Favorite actor?

Don't have one, I very seldom watch movies or TV shows and when I do they are more the History Channel, Discovery, etc. or Fantasy Adventure i.e. LOTR, D&D, etc.

12. Loud music or soft?

Go loud, an old rock n roll fan here - A Little Smoke on the Water from time-to-time, plus I think my hearing is starting to deteriorate or maybe I am just a little more selective about what I want to hear - at least that is what TheWife claims.

13. Where do you go when you’re sad?

For a run or to the ocean or preferably both at the same time - as a retired Coastie the ocean calls me back and heals some of the sadness. It is hard to stay sad, when looking at something so beautiful.

14. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?

I am out the door to walk the dog within 10 minutes.

15. Ever been in a physical fight?

Not in a long time

16. Turn on?

Twinkling eyes, real laughter and being a real person with their own personality.

17. Turn off?

Pretentiousness and small-minded

18. Fears?

19. Last thing that made you cry?

Calvin and Hobbes - when Calvin is old and his wife bring Hobbes in to his deathbed, had to clear something out of my eyes a couple of times, to keep reading.

20. Last time you said you loved someone?

About an hour ago - TheWife

21. Meaning behind your YouTube name?

hshawjr - my abbreviated name.

22. The relationship between you and the last person you texted?

23. Favorite food?

TheWife's homemade pizza, along with Sam Adams beer (OctoberFest)

24. Place you want to visit?

England and Scotland, my ancestral origins, but realistically, I want to go to Minnesota to see my grandkids more often

25. Do you have a crush?

TheWife - she still makes me tingle and I still take that second/third look.

26. Last time you kissed someone?

About an hour ago - TheWife

27. Last time you were insulted?

It doesn't really matter - I just consider the source, move on and don't worry about it. However, I do remember things and Karma can be a bitch.

28. Favorite piece of jewelry?

Wedding ring, it is the only piece of jewelry I wear, other than a sport or GPS watch

Now that I have given you all and the Internet a lot more information about me, I wonder how Google, Facebook and other data capture sites will use this information for their algorithms? It will be interesting to see how my "personalized" advertisements change as a result of this post.

Even so, writing this post was a nice change of pace and if I was really looking for privacy, I would get off the Internet, stop blogging or logging into different website, using facebook or Google products, which I do not plan to do.
