Sometimes You Just Need to Know When to Say When - RunLog 9-8-15

Sometimes you just need to know when to say when.

Today is one of those days. This morning Bennie and I got out for our early morning run. It had just stopped raining, the humidity was 110% and we just ran based on effort. Tuesday's are generally the day that I do my speedwork, more on that in a minute.

As you can see by my screenshot of Strava's interpretation of my run that it was just slower than I thought it would be for the level of effort we were putting out.

Not that it is all that big a deal, but it sure did feel tough out there this morning. It was just one of those runs where you come back soaked and feeling like crap.

On morning's that I do an early morning run with Bennie, I generally take him for a mile walk and then go for my run.

This is where that talk about it later comes into play.

The walk was still pretty damn humid and already in the 80's. Not a great combo for speedwork outside or at the UMA sweatbox.

Sometimes when I get to doing speedwork, I just keep going even when it ain't the smartest thing to do (after all you are supposed to feel very uncomfortable doing speedwork and push through discomfort to get yourself used to doing just that in races) and with the weather today, being stoopid just wasn't a great idea.

So I pretty quickly decided to skip the speed work today and by the time that I got done walking, not running with Bennie, I was sweating like a stuck pig. So I decided that it was a GREAT day to do just the one run.

Hopefully, tomorrow will be a bit nicer and more of a day to enjoy doing speedwork.

Sometimes even an old fool, knows when to say when.
