Some Days You Do Wonder - RunLog 2-1-16

This post was written for and first appeared on One Foot In Reality.

Some days you just gotta wonder.

The weather for February 1st is damned unseasonable - by the time we ran at 9:00 AM, it was already 42*F - just a bit warm for this time of year. Which also made down-back a bit "interesting" going from slushy spots to lots of white ice with that sheen of melt on top.

So I slowed down and tip-toed around some of the spots. Running in the middle had the best grip, but also allowed some minor post-holing that wan't all that much fun. There was just no real good spot to run where there was decent grip.

That is why the graph on the Strava Stats this morning was so "consistently" inconsistent.

Even so, Bennie and I felt pretty good and when we got to the usual stopping spot, Bennie wasn't ready to stop. So we did an extra mile up on top.

At some point, I will make the N1 Trail V1's that I have into screw shoes - probably for next winter and not be as meechy about running down there. Putting screws on the bottom of my shoes will definitely make a huge difference with running on the white ice.

Run #2

Didn't start off too promising and it didn't have anything to do with the run. I got to the gym and didn't have a pair of shorts and I sure as hell wasn't going to run in my compression shorts inside a busy gym. I do have some standards and while I am not all that modest, I am not going to go out in public in my underwear if I do not have to.

Now I usually carry extra running clothes in back of the truck for those impromptu runs that sometimes just happen and when I looked...all I had was an old ratty pair of wind pants that I had painted the garage in a few years back. Not too stylish and yeah I got a few snickers when I walked by a couple of other regulars.

However, I got to get my run in.

Actually, I did a lot better than I thought I would. I started slow and then quickly popped it up to an 8:00 minute pace and kept increasing it until I got to 3.0 miles.

With the delays caused by getting some pants, it meant that I only had time for 3.0 and even though I felt pretty good and wanted to keep going, I just ran out of time - if I wanted to get to work on time.

Now to make sure that I put a pair of old running shorts in the back of the truck. Next time I don't want to have to wear those ratty old wind pants again, if I don't have to.
