It Feels Great to Be Running Again - RunLog 5-30-16

First of all have a happy and safe Memorial Day, but take some time to thank those who gave so much to ensure that you can celebrate this day in the way you choose, not some proscribed manner.

 It is called Freedom and no it does not come without costs.

So how did things go today on the run?

We got rain for the first time in a while, so it was a bit slimey downback, but the weather was about perfect for a run light drizzle and low 50's. The weather conditions that I prefer.

Bennie didn't act like a butthead today and was ready to get out the door when I was ready to go.

Since the weather was so nice, I decided to see if the leg could hold up to a sub 9:00 pace yet or not. However, Bennie was more into interval running than steady running for the first 3 miles with 11 stops and sniffs, among other things. Which meant just about the time we would get a good pace going, we stopped again.

Then all but one vehicle we met was going in the other direction, which meant that Bennie had to "greet" each one and attempt to chase it down, slowing us down to get him going in the correct direction again.

Even with the interruptions we still, somehow stayed under the 9:00 minute pace I was looking for. What I was most impressed with was how consistent the splits were, even though the graph was anything but - that typical Bennie in the mood to run look.

How did the leg do with longer/faster?

Not too bad, it still has that little hitch and some minor discomfort which doesn't go away, but also doesn't get any worse, so I can't really stretch out my stride yet. I have to use a more rapid stride rate than I prefer to achieve a faster pace. However, it is good training and the most important thing is that I am running.
