Three Steps Forward-Two Steps Back - RunLog 7-27-16

This post was written for and first appeared on One Foot In Reality.

Frustration and pity party are over again. After Monday's run, one where Bennie was bowled over by the neighbor's lab. No Bennie was fine and was up in an instant, ready to defend his pack. I quickly got between them and stopped Depot from doing anything else. He finally backed down and the neighbor hollered at him to call him back.

I didn't say a word (when I do it only makes the situation that much worse - so I purposely kept my mouth shut to see what would happen) and all we in the way of an apology was getting glared at like it was our fault that we were running on road and his dog left his yard to attack Bennie. I just waved and we started running again.

Yeah, I was pissed, enough so that I didn't want to write about it that day or even yesterday. Yah still gotta be a little less than obnoxious when writing about something on a public blog, so I took a couple of days to cool off. Otherwise, let's just say I wouldn't have been that nice or short-winded.

Now for the pity party part. After that run my frigging left leg hurt so much I was limping badly all day Monday and I had to take yesterday off from running - no choices in the matter. Just when I get to running better again, some shit happens that sets me back. The old three steps forward and two steps back method of healing - but at least I am making progress.

So being able to run easy and slowly today was a good thing. I still haven't figured out what I did? Unless when Bennie was being used as a bowling pin, I pushed off with that foot (I am left footed), to get between them and it aggravated things again. I didn't notice until a little later when the adrenaline burger was gone.

Lots of alternating heat and ice have done the trick and I am back at it today.

Notes/Observations about the run: I wasn't sure how the leg would hold up after the past couple of days, so I just started out slow. I did pick it up a little after we got off the hill, but then Bennie got into stop mode a few times, so that took some umphf out the run.

On the way back one of the neighbors went by and Bennie went into hyper Bennie drive. He wanted to keep going faster, but I stayed an anchor. Then we slowed down going up the hill - as usual.

Once we got back to the house, Mary was turning around for her last lap and Bennie wouldn't be denied, he wanted to keep going. The leg had held up pretty well and the discomfort wasn't getting worse, so I figured "why not" and kept going.

Overall, the I was surprised at how close the first 3.0 miles were on the mile splits, because it was anything but a consistent run.

Shoes Used:
Nike LunarGide 7
Mileage:
185.53
Remarks: After the run I pulled a half inch long rock shard out of the sole, it had pierced all the way up through my shoe and only the insole stopped it from my heel.

Weight: 165
Sleep: Didn't sleep well, lots of dream, snakes/action hero/military type stuff

Aches and Pains:
Left Leg - The leg felt good enough to try this morning, so I did. it was not the most comfortable run, but nothing got worse, so I kept going. Tonight it is a little sore, but not nearly as bad as the other day, so improving again.
Hamstrings - no changes
