What Was I Thinking - April 19, 2020

The Good?

I took a break from writing since Monday's post and focused on just living well for the rest of the week.

I ran a lot, sort of enjoyed the weather and got a few more things cleared up in my own mind. However, it is Spring cleaning time so we have been working in the yard, cleaning up the storm damage from the past few weeks and just generally getting ready for whatever comes next.

The Bad?

Nope, nothing too serious or bad going on around us, other than the 15+ inches of snow, losing power, enduring the wind storm, Presidential politics, allowing for Mother Nature's other interesting moods, dealing with the Coronavirus, watching people make fools of themselves in the news... you know the usual stuff we all have to deal with on a daily basis in today's world. I gotta admit some of it did finally wear a little on the brain. Basically, I had a difficult time staying focused on any one thing for more than a little bit, although while using the chain saw I was pretty damned focused.

What Was I Thinking?

Today's world is an "interesting" time to be alive, to say the least.

However, I have no doubts that I will keep muddling along doing the best that I can while keeping values I hold dear.

Based on those values, I blocked multiple people on Facebook and Twitter, which decreased my stress levels considerably. Both sites can be horrible time sucks and make you question the future of human-kind, but at the same time, they both provide me with entertainment I would miss and once in a while some really thought-provoking posts that cause me to go down into rabbit warrens for further exploration.

It will be interesting to see what the next few months will bring. I am willing to bet, a great deal of it will be confusing and most likely a sad commentary on the direction my Country will go. There will be islands of calm and bright spots of hope, but I see many storm clouds on the horizon as well.

I never use Twitter and I don't post on Facebook. I do sometimes check photos from friends and relatives on Facebook. Occasionally they are worth the time, but more often not. I prefer blogging and reading articles online.

I've un-followed anyone who keeps posting political stuff. Just put your political affiliation on your profile and I will know your position on pretty much everything, no need to keep preaching it will not change anyone's position anyway.

Remember the good old days where you could be friends regardless of how you voted? I do.

CM - I have used Twitter for many years and I just follow/unfollow people based on my current interest and when things get a little too stupid I just unfollow/block idiots. ;-). Facebook brings with it the ability to connect with old friends and relatives who you lost touch with all those years ago. Unfortunately, it also comes with the reality that people can be jerks and those are people I just do not put up with.

JoeH - Yeah, I miss those days when we could disagree politically and still be friends which seems to be something that's not allowed by either major party, and if you are an independent you are really persona non grata. I don't get on too many soapboxes here on my blog, but once in a while when I see something really stupid from either party, I tend to go mmmmm and mention it, but it is not something that I focus on all that much.
